My work is an exploration of the material of paint and so it should evolve into an intuitive engagement with its infinite possibilities. Therefore the paint is a very important element in the work, the strokes, drips and marks are to be visible as much as what is being depicted. There should be a dialogue between the image and the material which hopefully results in something which the viewer will experience as sense of something rather than a pictorial representation.
Drawing is also a very important element in my practice, again to depict a sensory translation of the physical world.
My starting points vary, it may be the way the paint has manifested itself and inspires a particular response or from found images, objects and memories.
